2. These terms

By placing an order you agree to these terms, together with our Delivery Policy, Returns & Refund Policy and Privacy Policy, which form part of them.

Nothing here limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 ("CPA") or ECTA. Where anything in these terms conflicts with those Acts, the Acts apply.

3. When a sale happens

Adding items to your cart is not an order. Paying is.

  • When you check out and pay, you make an offer to buy.
  • We accept it when we send your order confirmation.
  • We may decline an order and refund you in full, for example where an item is unavailable, where we cannot deliver to your address, or where we suspect fraud. We will tell you why.

4. Prices

  • All prices are in South African Rand and include VAT at 15%.
  • Delivery is charged separately at checkout, unless your order qualifies for free delivery under the Delivery Policy.
  • Prices can change without notice, but never after we have confirmed your order.
  • If an item is listed at an obviously wrong price through an error, we may cancel and refund rather than fulfil it. We will contact you first.
  • A VAT invoice is issued with every order.

5. How we sell meat

Fixed-price packs. We sell packs at a fixed price for a stated weight, not by weight at the till. The per-kilogram price shown on each product page is for comparison. What you see at checkout is what you pay.

Weights vary. Meat is cut by hand from whole muscle. Actual pack weight may vary from the listed weight by up to 10% either way, and the price does not change within that range. Section 9 of the Returns & Refund Policy sets out what happens beyond it.

Meat is a natural product. Colour, marbling, fat cover and size vary between animals and between cuts. Dry-aged beef is darker and has a stronger aroma than fresh beef, by design. This is not a defect.

Fresh or frozen. Some items are sold frozen and some are cut fresh. Items cut fresh may be frozen for transit, depending on the cut, the season and the distance to your address. Where an item is always sold frozen, the product page says so. Our Delivery Policy sets this out in full.

Availability. We cut what we farm, so availability moves with the season and the animal. If we cannot supply something after you have paid, we will contact you to substitute, credit or refund.

6. Whole and half animals

  • Sold in weight bands, each at a fixed price. Where a carcass falls outside your selected band we will contact you before cutting to confirm the band and price, and you may cancel at no charge.
  • Cutting instructions are yours to give and ours to follow. Please give them carefully. Meat cut to your specification cannot be re-cut.
  • These orders may be cancelled up until cutting begins. After that they cannot, because the meat cannot be sold to anyone else in that form (ECTA s42(2)).

7. Payment

Payment is taken at checkout through Peach Payments, over an encrypted connection. We do not receive or store your card number. Orders are not cut or dispatched until payment clears.

8. Delivery

Set out in full in our Delivery Policy. In summary: we deliver across the Western Cape, free above the thresholds in that policy; orders placed before the weekly cut-off go out the same week, and later orders go out the following Monday so that your meat travels fresh.

Delivery dates are estimates. We are not liable for courier delays outside our control, but where an order arrives unfit because of a delay, your rights under the Returns & Refund Policy apply in full.

9. Storage and food safety

Once your order has been delivered and received in good condition, keeping it cold is your responsibility.

Refrigerate or freeze immediately on arrival. Follow the storage and use-by information on the label. We cannot be responsible for meat left out, stored above the labelled temperature, or thawed and refrozen.

10. Returns, refunds and cancellations

Set out in full in our Returns & Refund Policy. Meat is perishable, so the seven-day cooling-off right in section 44 of ECTA does not apply (s42(2)). Your rights under sections 55 and 56 of the CPA, where goods are unsafe, defective, spoiled, incorrect or not as described, apply in full and are not limited by these terms.

11. Gift cards

Gift cards are valid for [12] months from purchase, may be used online or at either shop, are not refundable, and cannot be exchanged for cash.

12. Your account

Keep your login details to yourself. You are responsible for orders placed through your account. Tell us immediately if you think someone else has access. We may suspend an account used fraudulently or abusively.

13. Our content

The Greeff's name, logo, photography, product copy and site content belong to us. You may not reproduce them commercially without our written permission.

14. Liability

Subject to the CPA, and except where the law does not allow us to limit liability, our liability for any order is limited to the value of that order.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in this clause limits liability for death or personal injury caused by unsafe goods under section 61 of the CPA.

15. Complaints and disputes

Talk to us first: onlineordersgreeffs@gmail.com or 044 382 2607. Most things are sorted in a phone call.

If we cannot resolve it, you may approach the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (0860 000 272, cgso.org.za) or the National Consumer Commission (012 428 7000).

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction.

17. General

If any clause is found unenforceable, the rest stand. Our not enforcing a term on one occasion does not waive it. We may update these terms; the version published when you place your order is the version that applies to that order.
